Sutton was last seen in Colorado Springs, Colorado on November 6, 2014. He had lived with his mother, but left home after they had an argument about his drinking; Sutton was drinking heavily. On the day of his disappearance, his stepfather dropped him and a friend off at a motel off south Nevada Avenue. It was either the Sun Springs Motel or the Chateau Motel; the two motels are very close to each other. Sutton didn’t have a wallet or identification with him. He told his stepfather he would call tomorrow. Later that day, he called his mother. He said he had made some new friends but was slightly afraid for his safety. He sounded drunk and his mother told him to call back in the morning because he wasn’t making any sense. He never contacted his family again. Two months after Sutton’s disappearance, his mother got a letter in the mail addressed to him. It was from the Social Security office and indicated that someone who used Sutton’s Social Security number to apply for federal benefits. At the same time, Sutton’s sister got a call from the Social Security office; whoever had filed the benefits application had listed her on the paperwork as the primary contact. Someone using Sutton’s name checked into a homeless shelter on Bijou Street in Colorado Springs in January 2015. It’s not clear whether the person actually was Sutton, however. It’s uncharacteristic of him to go this long without getting in touch with his mother, and he hasn’t used his federal benefits since he was last seen. Because of these things, he is considered missing under suspicious circumstances. His case remains unsolved.
